Year 1

Year 1 has had an action-packed spring term. We have worked hard, learned a lot, and had fun! In maths, we have been focusing on mastering number skills. This has involved many practical lessons to support our understanding and visualisation of numbers. In English, we first learned about Little Red Riding Hood and rewrote this traditional tale with different characters for the wolf. We had a Big Bad Python, a Big Bad Polar Bear, and even a Big Bad Chicken!
This term, we explored our new topic, ‘Disney Through Time,’ where we learned about the seven continents from which the Disney characters originate. The pupils have been engrossed in learning and especially loved making tourist attractions out of Lego!

We have improved our art skills by practising drawing a variety of animals. Our focus has been on using shapes to depict these animals accurately. We also enjoyed many special events, such as World Book Day, the Easter Gala, and Careers Day!
I hope you have a lovely half-term. I look forward to welcoming you back for our final term of Year 1!

Year 2

What a brief but busy and thoroughly enjoyable term that was!
We explored London through maps, images, and videos, identifying key features and landmarks. Then, we travelled back to explore London in 1666 during the Great Fire of London. We re-enacted what might have happened in the Pudding Lane Bakery. The children shaped some dough to make our bread buns, baguettes, and bagels to link with our materials topic; we learned about the effects of heat on specific materials and whether these changes are reversible or irreversible.
In DT, the children worked brilliantly in pairs to design and construct a Tudor-style house from cardboard boxes. We have also tried silk painting and sewing. Dr. Suloni visited us with a new book, and the children were inspired to write their own adventure stories after completing some investigative activities from the workshop.
This term has been full of exciting events and activities, including Careers Week, International Women’s Gala Day, and our Easter muffin workshop. Let’s not forget World Book Day, which was so much fun. It had terrific outfits and lovely opportunities to share stories.
We hope that you have a lovely Easter break and look forward to seeing you again for what promises to be an equally exciting Summer term.
